ELASTIC BANDS

Do you know them?

Surely yes. Elastic rubber bands are one of the best known and used training materials in the world of physical activity and sports. They are used to add resistance to movement, and this happens due to the elastic component of the material they are made of. By pulling them in one direction, the rubber will return the force in the opposite direction. This force will depend on the hardness of the rubber (there are categories that we will see later) and what we have stretched, that is, the more I stretch it, the more force it will do in the opposite direction. This is a great advantage, since in addition to working in the concentric phase, also involves a great effort in the eccentric phase of movement, so they increase their applications as training material.
Another advantage is that being a malleable material, can be attached to any place by a knot and can do a lot of exercises and movements. Among its applications, we must emphasize the role it has at the level of CORE training and proprioception (or neuromuscular control), causing instabilities and challenging the stabilizing muscles.
Therefore, its main applications are the realization of resisted movements (provoking manifestations of explosive force, relative dynamic force, etc.) and the activation of stabilizing muscles. These applications make it a material widely used in the physical preparation of any sport and personal training, and is that its low price and portability make it can be used by anyone anywhere.
We can differentiate several types: with gripping handles, very thin bands, thick rubber bands, etc. Within each type and according to the manufacturer, the elastic bands are classified according to the level of hardness-resistance that they present, from least to greatest, differentiated by colors.

To buy them you can go to any sport store or online sales as decathlon, amazon, etc. The prices vary depending on the manufacturer and the hardness-resistance of the rubber, representing is in kg. Thus, we find elastic bands ranging from 3€ to 20€. We can find them both in packs and separately. Here are some examples of where to get them:

Finally, here you have a video with several examples of exercises to perform with the elastic bands:
